Pocket Shredder 1.0

If you've dabbled in chess before and feel like you want to up your game and start playing properly then Pocket Shredder is a great way to do it.

The game is based on the PC version of Shredder, created by legendary computer chess champ Stefan Meyer-Kahlen. Not only does it allow you to play chess matches against the computer or a human opponent, but it actually helps you learn the intricacies of the game as you do so.

Pocket Shredder features a standard chess board, which can display all the legal moves available to you. You can choose to play against a super-powered AI opponent, or select the level of difficulty that suits your ability. The game board can be customized to alter the design of the playing surface itself, or the shape of the pieces (although I thought there wasn't much of a choice here).

But it's in its tuition tools that Pocket Shredder really excels. You can choose the setup position of the board, enter an 'Analyse mode', where every move is scrutinized by the computer, flick through a history of all the moves in the match, browse massive start and endgame databases, and get daily tactics and search information from the online database. Pocket Shredder can even auto-adjust the difficulty level so you progress at a steady and manageable pace.

If you're interested in improving your chess game, Pocket Shredder provides an ideal method of doing so on your Smartphone.
